Interesting Topics for my Research Paper
I have been considering topics to use for my research paper. Following are two possibilities.
Idea #1: Is it dangerous for people to turn to the web for medical advice? This is an area that has grown along with the popularity of the web. It is much easier and cheaper to search online for the answer to a medical question. Because the information is so readily available and doesn't charge a co-pay, I expect that more and more people will check websites before making doctors appointments. I have done it myself several times. But it is safe? Is the information correct?
Idea #2: The availability of online degrees is another difficult area that has been created by the development of the World Wide Web. Are online degrees good or bad for the academic community? How can an employer or grad school know when a degree program is legitimate? Are there circumstances where an online degree is better than a traditional degree?
Thank you. Thank you very much.

I like both of your ideas...especially the medical one. I know I fire up WebMD every time I have some weird affliction. The only problem is it always tells me I have brain cancer or something awful and it turns out I have a pimple, or something. I am interested in knowing how you'd go about researching for such a topic...it could be challenging.
Oh, and I'm glad you're enjoying class. And I share your concern about the people down south. I hear they're flying like 200 animals up from down there to the Cinci humane society that need foster homes temporarily until they can try to find their owners, probably in October.
Hi Amy,
From my brief scanning of websites, it appears that legitimate medical organizations are aware of this situation: people using the web instead of a physician. I visited a few webpages from well-known medical institutes and they have addressed the issue and provided guidance and suggestions on how to safely use the web for medical advice. The key here, however, is to make sure that the webpages giving the advice are "for real"! Does this sound like a good plan? Thanks. Susan
